After the End Wars, the Yamato Republic committed to military de-escalation and retained only a small number of local forces for domestic security. Foreign defense was outsourced to mercenaries hired by the Kuromizu Corporation.

Local defense forces consist mainly of Kaiho Defense Officers, who are stationed on “Kaihos”- artificial maritime fortresses built on islands and reefs. They primarily respond to maritime threats and guard the coastline. In addition, Kaiho Defense Officers also provide rapid auxiliary support for counter-piracy and counter-smuggling raids.

終焉之戰後，大和共和國為提倡不再有戰爭，僅保留少量本土防務部隊協助維持國內治安，一切來自境外的威脅或武裝衝突，均交由黑水公司負責處理。

本土防務部隊設有大和陸上自護隊，其中海堡自護官是主要駐紮在海堡的守備力量。這些海堡是在島礁上人工擴建的軍事基地，用以應對海上威脅、阻擋艦隊，保護港灣。除此之外，海堡自護官還會在海盜搶掠、走私、偷渡等案件發生武裝衝突時，進行快速支援。
